In 1881 he was living at 72 Gunco Lane, Sutton. He married t015 Martha Potts in Macclesfield in 1890 (1890 quarter 3, Macclesfield, folio 8a page 252). He had 1 son and three daughters. In 1891 he was living at 13 Duke Street, Macclesfield, with his sister, t049 Mary. He was a silk power loom weaver. His wife died in 1900. In 1901 he was living at 110 New Bank Street, South Manchester. He was a railway worker.

She was born in Nether Alderley in 1864 and died in 1934 (1934 quarter 1, Macclesfield, folio 8a page 211). In 1901, they were living on Welsh Row, Nether Alderley, with their son t113 Herbert Edward Potts [-;1,3R;1,4R], born in 1898 (1898 quarter 1, Macclesfield, folio 8a page 157) in Nether Alderley and died in 1918 in France.
