Stella is a daughter of Johan Martiniús Olsen and Valencia Ann Harper Olsen (née Penney). She emigrated to Australia before the 2nd. World War. She was married twice and had a third partner. She was a committed trades unionist, and spent her life championing the worker, especially the emigrant workers. Pete was a noted author, describing the working and living conditions of the miners.
