The Dying Mother
Oh! Death keeps creeping on and on,
My days are going, one by one.
Please don't think,
Life's work I try to shirk.

My strength is ebbing day by day,
So don't think, dear children, that I'm lazy.
For I am going to a much better place,
Where poverty and failure are no disgrace.

Over my dead body do not weep,
For my poor body is at rest.
So from you all, I take my leave,
Once more, from me, I say, please don't grieve

Valencia Olsen
