According to the 1871 census, the Rhead family was living at Upper Mount Street, Tunstall. There were 3 boarders, William Cartlege, Samuel Rowley and Sarah Shaw. By 1881 the family had grown and had moved to 21 Copley St., Wolstanton. By 1891 the family was back in Tunstall at 34 King Street.

He was a ''journeyman potter'. After Mary's death in 1857, he married k021 Jane Lobb, in Wolstanton in 1858 (1st. quarter folio 6b page 162). He had 2 sons and a daughter with Jane. In 1861 and in 1871 9 he was living in Henry Street, Tunstall. In 1881 he was living at 2 Windmill Street, Wolstanton. He died on 13 March 1885 in Wolstanton (1885 quarter 3, Wolstanton, folio 6b page 82).
